Accuracy Rate: 98%
Error Rate: 1:41
Self-Correction Rate: 1:2

Image result for reading aloud cartoon classroom         I did a running record with one of my ELL students in my classroom and the assigned reading we used was called The Old Stone. The reading has 405 words and the student was able to read 98% correctly. The student had about 10 errors and 9 self-corrections indicating the child read with moderate fluency. The student’s error rate was 1:41, which meant 1 in every 41 words the student was reading with an error. A little bit of background history of Student I struggles with reading but this year we have been working constantly in all assignments. The child was reported on his IEP reading on a third grade level but with his optimal attitude he can strive this year!
The way I would construct a mini-lesson for this student and others similar to him would be by including a read-aloud. By having students join me in a large group and have the reading posted on the White Board and go over the passage together. Creating a breakdown with group discussion of what is important in each paragraph may help students comprehend. Also, by creating modified graphic organizer that breaks down the reading this will allow students to organize their thoughts and answer key vocabulary questions.
